| Launch of Green Transport Week
20 Aug 2006
Do you know that if you drive, you are releasing 4,500kg of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into the environment a year? This is enough to fill 5 average-sized HDB apartments!
So, do take public transport or practise fuel-efficient driving habits if you need to drive. These are the messages which the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) is driving at in this year's Green Transport Week. The Green Transport Week (GTW), was kicked off on Sunday by our Senior Parliamentary Secretary (SPS), Dr Amy Khor. It will last for one week till this coming Sunday. SPS also launched the third edition of the Green Tranport Guide, which features practical tips for motorists on how to be more fuel-efficient. GTW is the second phase of the Climate Change Awareness Programme (CCAP) that was launched by Minister on Earth Day, 22 April 06. |

In a show of support for Green Transport Week, more than 50 cyclists turned up at Sunday's launch event to take part in a leisurely cycling trip starting and ending at Changi Village Hotel, with Chairman leading the pack. |

| After flagging off the cyclists, SPS, accompanied by CEO, test-drove two hybrid cars, the Toyota Pruis and Honda Civic. Hybrid cars offer better fuel economy and emit significantly lower emissions compared to petrol and diesel cars of similar engine capacity and size. |

Let's do our part for the Environment!
So act now! Use public transport as our primary mode of transport. For those who rely on cars, adopt simple driving habits that can reduce fuel wastage and save money. And when purchasing a car, consider fuel-efficient models or hybrids.
